Great all around……

Well, it has all been hapenning here at West Coast Angling, not only have my clients been finding plenty of fish, many other things have been happening also! Mike has been into trout for the first time in his life after just one casting lesson, i am soon to give him another lesson and then get him into the boat on Lickeen lake for some offshore trips. We have just recently launched a new buisiness named Sea Dogs fishing adventures which is aimed at children and those just looking for something todo whilst in the west Co.Clare area, Sea Dogs fishing adventures cover safety, tackle set up, casting, fish capture, handling and release amongst other things, basically the more frequently that the client comes the more information they glean. This activity has proven very succesful so far this summer and our new seadog fledgelings are bennefiting beyond my expectations, start them young and give them a proper footing is the way to go.

We are back……

Hi all, we are back after an update to the blog and website. So what is new, things have been slow on the Bass front due to endless onshore strong winds throughout may and so far well into June and of course we have had the close season for bass, i will be back having a go at this fanfastic species very soon. I have a new fishing buddy Mike who has managed to fish for over 30 years and is yet to catch a fish, so he says, that is a tall order by anybodys standards, the funny thing is i believe him. I am presently teaching him how to fly cast and he ventured on a couple of bass trips with me a month or so ago, we both blanked…he better not be a bad omen, we will find out. He is very keen and is picking up the discipline quickly, i hope to share with you his progress and thus demonstrate just how easy it is for a complete novice to venture forth into fishing.

Lickeen lake is fishing well despite the conditions with a fair few of the larger wild fish starting to show, the rod average is 2.5 fish a trip which is good considering we have not stocked it yet and the rods that have ventured out are only out for a couple of hours because of the weather.

I posted a fair few months ago that i may well have found Irelands best kept secret and this i am still sure of, as the manager of this fantastic lake, Lickeen lake, i have been researching fish density levels with a view to proposing a restocking regime, during my investigations i am pretty sure that i have indeed found Irelands best kept secret, i have just a few more investigative studies to do and will be releasing my findings as part of the lakes marketing. At the moment i am just enjoying keeping you dangling with what these secrets could be. Trust me it will be worth the wait……..

Progress on the lake is going well with the lodge being made over, picnic tables installed, access to the boats being implemented in the form of a solid gravel road, we have also erected plenty of signs of various natures and the self service system is working very well, we know have a second fully equiped boat, a cleaned up car park and a rudd removal programme is underway. The future for Lickeen lake is bright and so it should be it is a fantastic fishery that holds something for every type of angler and the general public alike..
